Fast Company Magazine has been evaluating cities in the USA along various criteria and Sarasota is in the running for Green Leadership.
According to Shannon Staub, our Sarasota County commissioner who is an advisory member of the Green Govt Initiative, a National Association of Counties program to help counties develop environmentally sustainable programs and practices, Sarasota County is recognized by many in government:

Not being immodest, but Sarasota County is held in very high esteem
nationally. We are cited at almost every conference I attend. Even the
architect of the largest green commercial project in NYC (bank of
america building that will be LEED Platinum) lauded us at a conference
last year. The green govt. person for Vancouver, BC did the same thing
last year also.
